I can't seem to really get into 2009. It feels like my other foot is still buried in 2008, whatever I mean by that! So I figured I should write an entry that would give me a sense of conclusion, or closure, or end for the past year so I could get on with the activities, fun and challenges of 2009. ... yet I also feel that I have written enough in and about 2008 that I would be like a 'sirang plaka' (a damaged vcd/dvd) if I write anything more. So we'll see where these typing fingers will take us... (after a while... nothing comes to mind) so I went ahead and read my daily dose of O. Chambers' "My Utmost for His Highest." Assorted pics from the two-week Writing and Editing Workshop with the Southern Subanen of Mindanao.

Hmm, it's been a while! We left for Mindanao on the 15th and came back on the 29th. One would expect (actually, I expected myself) that I'd be rushing to my blogs to chronicle all that has happened.  Well, that did not happen.  We landed in Manila expecting to get a bus home right away.  To my chagrin, every bus was fully-booked until the next day so we hailed a taxi to haul us and all our baggage back to my sis' apartment.  But we got home eventually and all I could do was feel the cold and be lazy, I did not even want to play scrabble!  Maybe I was tired. haha!  (Boy, was it hot and humid in Zamboanga!) The workshop went well except for some minor mishaps like all of the teaching staff getting sick at one time or another.  Mindanao was full of lechons and bukos so I gained 2kg after the two weeks that we were there!   I also spent all my money buying guitars that my husband's cousin has carved by hand on a slab of Gmelina wood...

For three times this year, she almost came face to face with her Creator. The first time was when she underwent an emergency surgery, the second was when her blood went septic due to an acute infection that was made worst by a typhoid fever, and then the third time was when her head and her husband's was almost ran over by a jeep when she and her husband fell off his motorbike during an accident last week. All that made her realize how important time is and that we should be ready to go anytime, cuz really, we never really know. To her, being ready is to be sure that when you go, people who've crossed your path in one way or another will not be left with questions in their minds. Having said that, the near-death experiences she underwent really reminded her about the importance of forgiveness, both in bestowing it and receiving it, but so much more on the bestowing-it-part. She is not one to hold grudges against someone! Gosh, I don't think sh...
